The Evil of Anger | A Short Story By Isah Bala

...Read and ponder

After working for twenty days without off, Mr. Ben called Adavize to inform him of the next business trip to Metele scheduled for the following day.

Hearing this alone changed Adavize's countenance. He soliloquised, asking himself several questions he doesn't know the answers.

"How can he be so insensitive because of money. Is he not aware that Boko Haram just attacked Metele few weeks ago?"

While all these were running through his mind, he suddenly realized that his wife will soon be delivered of baby and in dire need of his attention. He can't quit his job, the safety of his wife and the baby is paramount to him. Adavize became confused, he lay between the devil and the deep blue sea, thinking of the way out of the bermuda island he has found himself.

Adavize returned home, looking dejected and worn out. As part of the training Ize received prior to their wedding, she believed as the Chief Executive Officer of the household's happiness, it's her duty to change her husband's mood and make him see reasons that everything will be alright.

She went closer to Adavize, sat on his lap, revealing her white teeth and making her way to lock her pointed nose in Adavize's own and steal the ugly day. Adavize likened this to pouring of salt on already swollen injury, he raged at his beloved wife and pushed her to the floor.

Ize, who was eight months pregnant only tried to put smile on the face of her husband despite her condition. She fell, she shouted for help as her protruding belly heat the floor.
"I am dying for love, pls help me, I don't want to die" she cried.

Adavize made his way out of the house, "you will get up when you are through with your drama", he said smashing the door knob.

Two hours later, Adavize returned and met his beloved wife in a pool of blood, cold and lifeless. Ize is gone, Ize died for love.

"I have killed my wife, pls shoot me and let me die, I am evil, I don't deserve to live, pls kill me for the sake of God", Adavize is seen crying at the police station.

After police investigation, Kemi was laid to rest amidst uncontrollably wailing by friends and family members. Adavize was arrested, charged with the murder of Kemi.

In his prison uniform, he sat at the prison courtyard, crying and narrating his story to anyone that cares to listen. "I don't deserve to be alive, pls shoot me and let me die, it's better than life imprisonment", he begged the prison warden.

Dear men, no matter the amount of frustration always try to control yourself when you are with your your family. Do not raise your hand on your wife or take decision while you are angry, save the marriage, save your wife.
A man who dares to raise his hand on woman is not a man, pls leave such person, you don't deserve hitting, seeing you getting hit will be more painful to your daughter than growing without a father.
