I am quite intelligent in my own right, this I can assure you, so trust me when I present to you a candidate for an elective public office.
Barrister Natasha Akpoti is on another level of everything entirely; amiable behind the scenes, strict in decision-making and unapologetically blunt, sometimes even offensively so, especially when the truth is the bone of contention.
On the public domain, she transforms into a lone-wolf; valiant, intrepid, undaunted and irrepressible. One could correctly assume that she is possessed by the spirits of the great civil rights activists of the old; the Malcolms, Luther king Jrs, Walters and Sarowiwas etc. These sages, I believe, hover over her holding their staff while sprinkling cosmic dusts of courage upon her as she transforms into an indomitable form full of knowledge of a subject matter as she addresses an audience.
This was such the scene when she mounted the daiz to address the Nigerian Bar Association, okene chapter, at their annual event with the theme, "Safeguarding and Promoting the Rule of Law in the 21st Century Nigeria".
She was acute in her deposition, hammering home her points, caring very little whose ox was gored in the process. She expressed disappointment that the body paid lip service or assumed the ostrich stance when she was in the eye of the storm exposing the litany of administrative malfeasances and corruption that characterized the activities that culminated in bringing Ajaokuta to its moribund state today.
You see, I am from the eastern part of Kogi state, but I have seen the flicker of the light of hope that would light up the path to Nigeria's progress shining in the central and I have decided, long before now, to lend a hand in clearing the obscurities to usher in its brightness in all its glory, the little I can.
