This was made known after the extraordinary meeting of National Council on information held in Jos, Plateau State Capital, the Director General noted that as gate-keepers in the journalism profession, it has become pertinent to resist pervasive influence of hate speeches and fake news at a time when Nigerians are making effort to consolidate on national unity.

Mr. Abdulmalik who led three-man delegation from Kogi State to the extra- ordinary meeting, noted that ethnic components of the Confluence State have lived together in peace and unity right from the time of Kabba province, stressing that nothing should be done to put the people asunder.

He appealed to Journalists to place high premium on social responsibility and misinformation that could undermine national unity.

Commenting on social media, he lamented that it is unfortunate that it is being abused and used as platform to denigrate Public functionaries.
The Director-General pointed out that social media operators should know that cybercrime ACT 2015 had since become enforceable.
Earlier, Alhaji Abdulmalik granted interview to some journalists in Jos where he highlighted the achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello as well as giving insight into the outcome of the screening.

He maintained that while the State Government had directed ministries and extra-ministerial agents to submit reports on staffers that are yet to be cleared, the Governor would not reneged on his vow to defend the rights of every genuine worker.
