Bye-Election: More Women Groups In Lokoja Endorse Imam For House Of Reps
As we approach the Lokoja /Kogi Federal Constituency Bye-election, more women groups in Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency are throwing their weight behind the candidacy of Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, former Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly and Member representing Lokoja I State Constituency.
The Tawakaltu Women Association, Anguwan Kura in Ward D has publicly come out to, according to them, identify with the man who identified with them in their hour of need.
The President of the Association, Hajiya Maryam Alfa otherwise known as “Kaduna” stated this on behalf of her members, today when the Imam Support Movement members led by Dr.
Prince Abdulkadir Osama Jiya paid them a consultative visit.
She said, given his community development strides, which includes the empowerment of their children through his skills acquisition programmes, his electricity project in their area, women empowerment as well as his humble nature, they cannot see him and go and work for someone else no matter how wealthy and anointed that person is.
She went further to say that even if they don’t want to get involve in politics again because of the betrayal they suffered from the ruling Party, they are going to come out en masse and support him to victory, because of the injustice melted on him, to prove to those championing the reign of injustice and maladministration that indeed, it is good to be with the people at their trying time.
At the Meeting of the Zumunta Association of Ward D, the Women Group, who were visibly angered by the failed promises, humiliation and neglect they suffer from the governing Party and those charged with the affairs of the Party at the Ward level, spoke in similar vein with the Tawakaltu Women Association.
According to the Woman Leader of the Women Group, Hajiya Hassana Saidu, their contributions to the success of the governing Party in the last election was never appreciated or rewarded.
She said apart from the late Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, late Rt. Hon. Umar Buba Jibril and Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam who recognized and extended their hands of fellowship to them, no one considered them worthy of any involvement in the governance process or beneficiaries of any democracy dividend, hence, their resolve to wait for them to return to ask for their votes.
She finally said, now that Rt. Hon. Umar Buba Jibril is late, they only recognize and are completely loyal to Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam and are ready to follow him anywhere he is going.
She further assured the Imam Support Movement that they have also resolved to work for him like they did before but this time with more commitment adding that they will no longer allow themselves to be deceived by deceptive politicians who share salts and rice during festive and electoral periods while majority of the people suffer from the same politicians.
