Natasha Lauds Presidency as PMB, First Lady Declare Support for 35% Women Participation in Politics
Aspirant vying to represent the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District, Barrister Natasha Hadiza Akpoti, has commanded presidency for declaring support for 35 percent inclusion of women in politics in Nigeria at all level.
In a statement she made available through her social media handle, the aspirant joined other women to express her joy and commended president Muhammadu Buhari's administration who see reason to support the drive for more inclusion of women in governance.
She said: "Joyfully, I join millions of Nigerian women to celebrate today as a remarkable day in our nation’s democracy.
"This is so because the Presidency upon the drive of the First Lady Hajiya Aisha Buhari declared support for the 35% inclusion of credible women in leadership across all electoral positions in the 2019 elections."
"Congratulations to Nigeria for waking up from a democratic slumber which has cheated our country off some of it's best leaders. Women, this is it.
"Our men have come on full
support, lets join hands in 2019 and beyond to redefine our nation’s narrative where Social Equality, Economic Development and Peace shall reign paramount at the desks of forthright leadership’s pledge to serve the good citizens while bridging the gap of governance", she said.
According to her, the Women Political Aspirants Advocacy Summit was organised by Dr. Laraba Shoda Chairperson of Nigerian Council for Women Society (NCWS) and Women in Politics (WIP) upon the directives First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari.
The submit was graced by President Buhari who appreciated the role women played in his emergence as President at the 2015 elections thereby pledging his unalloyed affirmation for the 35% women inclusion in politics at all level.
The new APC Chairman, Adams Ohiomole was was present at the occasion notes that, "in these days, brain power not muscles define the capabilities of quality leadership and any society that deprives half of its population by gender discrimination is cheating itself of half the progress that society ought to achieve”.
Oshiomole added that “the gender quota system has come to stay and Nigerian women should hold him accountable to his words”.

On her contributions, Dr. Laraba Shoda appreciated Women for their roles in developing Nigeria’s decomcray and patience in supporting the male folks but wasted no time to remind the women about the Impact and Strategy of the Aba Women Riot of 1929. “2019, no doubt will be the best year for Nigerian women in politics but play it affirmatively, courageously, peacefully and Strategically”, she said.
