Okehi Administrator Bags Students' Union Award By Isyak Alex Adeiza

The Administrator of Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon Abdulraheem Ohiare was on Thursday 29th March, 2017 awarded by Ihima Students' Union (ISU) for his outstanding contributions towards educational development in the local government.


The President of the union, Comrade Isah Amoto Bala while making the presentation at the Local Government Headquarters in Obangede, stated that the administrator since his emergence, has been at the beck and call of the union, hence the need to appreciate his contributions.

While emphasizing that education is the foundation for societal development, he regarded the administrator as trailing the path of ensuring a serene society, adding that he solely sponsored the Spelling Bee Competition organized by the union in 2016.

According to him, the union which was established in 1972 is one of the oldest from the Central Senatorial District of the state, and has been fulfilling the task of contributing to the educational development of students from primary to tertiary level.

The union pledged to support the leadership of the local government in its programmes and policies.

In his response, Hon Ohiare appreciated the leadership of the union and commended their efforts towards ensuring academic growth among students of the local government.

"If only we have people like you, the society would be a better place," he said.

He lamented the rate at which some youths of the land have given in to drug addiction, and illicit attitudes.


He revealed that since his emergence, he has been paying fees of students from the overhead cost of the local government, adding that they will soon reel out youth programmes to widely showcase potentials and talents in the local government.

While assuring further collaborations with the union in sensitizing the youths, the administrator promised to introduce a book published by one of the students to the Ministry of Education for adoption.

In a related development, the Secretary of the local government, Hon Ibrahim Seidu was inducted as the Patron of the union.


The Chief of Staff of the Local Government, Hon Shaibu Hassan also graced the event to congratulate the administrator.
