Life can be horrible sometimes, it can make one to regret the essence of living on the surface of the earth. At such time, life becomes unbearable and many human beings who found themselves in this condition had wished to die just to evade the continued horrible experiences being subjected to.

Such is the condition of young girls who fled Boko Haram attacks and were captured, raped and enslaved by human traffickers who at the end sold their babies.

Miriam, 17-year-old and Roda, who is now 18-year-old are among those young Nigerian girls who had passed through horrible experiences in the hands of human traffickers who captured them while fleeing from Boko Haram attacks.

Young Miriam and Roda who live in Madinatu Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Borno State narrated how they suffered in the hands of human traffickers for three years.

Miriman and Roda used to live in the same compound in Bama, they fled Borno State in 2017 after Boko Haram attacked the area, burnt down their houses and kidnapped women and children.
In an attempt to escape from the hands of Boko Haram, Miriam and Roda fled Bama, they left members of their family behind without knowing what happen to them in the hands of Boko Haram.

The two girls narrated how they trekked for days before they could reach Madinatu. They live in the IDP for two years before they both traveled to Enugu State to work as house maids for a woman who came to their camp to look for young girls that can work as house help.

During their two years in Madinatu, the two girls live in the same small bamboo tent. The Madinatu IDP camp has more than 5,000 people who are just like Miriam and Roda. They also fled Boko Haram attacks and found cover in the camp.

The poor girls narrated that life was tough for them in the camp, food was in short supply and said they often beg on the street of nearby community before they could get enough to eat for the day. Because of this hardship, the two girls quickly accepted the offer to work as house maids in Enugu State.

They were so excited to leave Madinatu IDP camp to have a better life in Enugu, as a result of this, they could not tell anyone in the camp that they were leaving. They left hoping to live a better life again after living together in a small hut for two years.

Miriam And Roda Left Madinatu For Enugu

Miriam and Roda finally left Madinatu for Enugu State in search of better life. They left Borno state full of hope. After several hours of

journey, they reached spend the night in Abuja in the house a woman identified as Aunty Kiki before moving to Enugu the next day.

Aunty Kiki was the woman who went to Madinatu camp in Borno State and promised to give Mariam and Roda a better life in Enugu State, she felt pitied for after hearing how their houses were burnt and their family members abducted by Boko Haram.

She handed Miriam and Roda to an elderly woman and advised the poor girls to do whatever the elderly woman asked them to do.

Miriam and Roda narrated that the elderly woman took them to her compound which had two flats with three bedrooms each. They met other young girls inside the house, some of them pregnant.

Miriam who was full of tears said, Aunty Kiki told them that was where they will be working. The poor girls first believed they were going to do the job of house maids as promised, but they were wrong. They escaped from Madinatu IDP camp to a den of Satan.

The Unexpected

They narrated that the old woman asked them to stay alone in a separate rooms. They will no longer be staying together in the same room. Miriam said they were surprised about the decision because other girls in the house were staying together.

She said late at night, a man came to her room, and ordered her to remove all her clothes, and held her tightly and raped her. Same thing happened to her friend, Roda. She was raped too by an unknown man.

With tears in her eyes, Roda said her rapist slapped her several times when she tried to scream and used his hands to cover her mouth.

At this time, the poor girls said they knew they were in the hands of human traffickers, they realized they left Madinatu to a more horrible place.

They narrated that it became a norm that they were raped by different men everyday. Life in Enugu became unbearable, they wished for death but it never come. They had no choice than to obey what the orders of their abductors or risk being forced.

The Worst Experience

The poor girls thought they've seen the most horrible experience, but they were all wrong. After few months in the hand of their abductor in Enugu, they became pregnant. They narrated that even while they were pregnant they were being raped continuously by different men.

Roda summoned courage to reveal more heartbreaking experiences. she said even at six month pregnant they were still raped by different men.

Such was the extent of the inhuman treatment they were subjected to in Enugu. They could not escape the compound guarded by men with guns.

As each girl gave birth, they were sent away and bring in another victims to replace them and produce more children for the human trafficking cartel.

Miriam recalled how she gave birth to a baby boy, but never had the chance to see her baby. Her baby was taken away and three days later, she was blindfolded and sent away. The traffickers gave her to a bus going to the North, with a reward of N20,000 naira for her transport and upkeep.

Just like her friend, Roda was also sent away after giving birthto a baby boy. They were both reunited in Madinatu after the horrible experiences. They are now living together again in a small mud house they were living before they were trafficked to Enugu.

Life has been unbearable, Miriam and Roda have seen the worst experiences in their lives, but they are still alive hoping for a better future.

They were not the first girls to be trafficked out of Madinatu camp, many young girls have been victims of this evil. Some that were lucky were trafficked to cities in Nigeria while the unlucky ones were taken to Libya, Italy and Niger and they were never seen again.
