Kogi SDP Holds First Zonal Meeting In Kogi East

On the 6th of February 2021, Anyingba, the geographical center of the 9 local governments in Kogi East, played host to the first zonal meeting to be organized by the Ag. Vice chairman, East, of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Kogi state chapter, Hon. Sunday Ali Atabor.

The meeting, which attracted state executive representatives of the party, local government party chairs, secretaries, youth and women leaders, was covered by local media houses.

The meeting sought, amongst other things, to unite the house and expand her territories and frontiers. Chairmen present at the meeting spoke extensively for the party and pledged their unalloyed loyalty and support for the leadership of Hon. Sunday Atabor as they prayed for the success of his reign.

They also reinstated their commitment to the constitution of the party and urged the state secretary, Dr. Okeme Arome, to continue to fight for the party in the East while appreciating his tenacity and financial commitment so far. In the same vein, they also pledged their support to the state leader of the party, Barr Natasha Akpoti, urging her to continue to make the party proud.

They gratified the national secretariat for having confidence in their son and leader, Hon. Barr. Joseph Abu, the National Legal adviser, describing him as a beacon of hope for the region.

The meeting was well attended with the various local governments and party executives from the East admonished to go back to their wards with a new resolve to increase their membership base and hold meetings regularly.

Recall that in the second quarter of last year, the party lost its vice chairman to the cold hands of death after a protracted illness and therefore was without one until late last year when the National secretariat approved the appointment of Hon. Sunday Atabor, in acting capacity, to complete the tenure of the deceased chairman.

Hon. Sunday Atabor is a renowned politician and clergyman. He was a one time councilor representing the good people of Iboko/Efakwu ward in  Ofu LGA for two consecutive tenures (2003-2011) and doubled up as the leader of the legislative council during the same period.

In 2011, he was appointed Ag. chairman, Ofu LGA and in less than two weeks paid, in full, salaries and accrued leave bonuses of the civil servants, a feat never before achieved.

In the previous house of assembly elections, Ofu LGA, he came second after APC, ahead of the PDP on the platform of the SDP.

A man loved and cherished by his people, Hon. Sunday Atabor couldn't have come at a more auspicious time. He brings to the party a much needed wealth of experience, competence, diligence and practical know-how on how to efficiently manage the affairs of the party in the East.

The meeting was adjourned until further notice with all attendees beaming with smiles.

A new era appears to have lighted up in the party in the East where wisemen emanate from. With the doors of the party wide open for all and sundry, it urges everyone to join hands together to build a formidable party fit enough to take over power in 2023 at all levels.

Long live SDP, Kogi East,

Long live Kogi state

Long live Nigeria.
