Natasha Bags EVI Honorary Award

In its quest to recognize exceptional personalities who have contributed to the development of humanity, Ebira Vonya International (EVI) found Barrister Natasha Akpoti worthy of  honorary award for her selfless service to humanity.



Natasha whose award was received in her absence by her representative thanked the organisers of the august occasion, while calling on the youths of Kogi State and Nigerian youths to be more economically driven in their collective strengths as young and promising future of the state and the nation at large.

"Politics is the art of ruling or leading while Economics is the science of wealth creation and wealth distribution.

"The problem of poverty in Kogi state and Nigeria at large is intricately connected to our unhealthy focus on politics while ignoring the ever crucial economics from which wealth is made. Ajaokuta steel is wealth ... let's redirect our focus." she said

The awards of service to humanity were also conferred on, Professor Adam Okene Ahmed Dean, Postgraduate School of the Nigerian Defence Academy NDA, Kaduna and  Chairman Governing Council of Kogi State higher Institutions, Mall. Umar deputy registrar FCE Okene, Alhaji Aliu Aroke popularly known as Ajoze (An artist), Raji Onene (Traditional singer).

Responding to his honorary award, Professor Adam Okene Ahmed said one of the reasons he chose to attend the programme was to meet Barrister Natasha Akpoti to discuss with her on the issue of Ajaokuta revival.


According to him, "irone is a divine gift, Muslims will understand this because a whole chapter in the Quran (Al-Hadid) is being named after iron to explain the importance of iron to humanity. "

He thereafter advised Ebira sons and daughters to have one voice in the struggle to revive Ajaokuta.

The event which was held on September 3, 2017 in Okene, was graced by illustrious sons and daughters of the land from all walks of life, and also had presentation of papers on topics bothering on youths and leadership.

The occasion which also featured the six edition of EVI sholaship, awarded 12 undergraduate students from different parts of Ebira Kingdom.

Commenting on the selfless service of the sponsor, the chairman of the occasion Alhaji Salihu O Umar noted that there are many people in the society who are more influenced than the founder and sponsor of the EVI annual scholarship Dr. Joseph Akomodi but chose to invest it into what will not benefit the society and humanity, calling individual that are well to do in Ebira land to key into the just cause.

Giving the history of the non-governmental organisation, the chairman of EVI said the
the charitable organization was founded by Engr Joseph Ozigi Akanmodi in 2004 in the United States of America and brought down to Nigeria to cater for the unity of the six Ebira Kingdoms
 while it launched its annual scholarship in 2008 with two undergraduate students, adding that the number of the beneficiary keep on increasing every year.  "Honorary award is an innovation into the annual programme of  EVI." he said

Earlier, one of the guest speakers Dr. Ekunaiye from Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta  advised the youth to shun all forms of social vices, explaining that everybody has a role to play in societal building.

In his own words, "leadership does not end with the political office holders, guardian most wake up to their responsibilities.

"The unabated kidnapping and assassination in Ebira land is alien to Ebira nation." he said

Challenging other guardians, the guest speaker volunteered to be arrested to provide  anybody from his family that involves in any form of crime to face the wrath of the law.

While reminiscing on the selfless people who have made Ebira proud, the guest speaker commended the efforts of late Dr. Jimoh Akpoti who used his available resources to help people in orthodox medicine.

"Natasha is only showing she's a true daughter of late Dr. Jimoh Akpoti, a man who lived for his people.

"People like late Alhaji Adamu Attah, late Alhaji Usman Obatemi, late Senator AT Ahmed, Bishop Haurna, Dr. Joseph Akomodi, General Yusuf Amuda amongst others have made Ebira proud in their chosen field of endeavour. " he said

The national President of Ihima Students' Union, Comrade Isah Amoto Bala, and Mr. Isah Abdulmumin Anda,  a one time beneficiaries of the scholarship programme were also on ground to celebrate with the beneficiaries and show their appreciation to the charitable organization.
