You Must Defend And Protect Democracy Instead Of Destroying It With Your Reckless Conduct - OGO'OGU Tells Gov Yahaya Bello

Quoting from the resonating words of Ayn Rand, "we are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force, arrogant cruelty".

Let me extend a solemn salutation to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State. Also, Hon Barr Deedat the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, I greet you. Hon Abdulraheem Ohiare the Okehi  Local chairman, it's my pleasure. I will not forget to greet our fathers, the traditional rulers, may your days be long. What about the citizens, the power of the society, the decision-makers and the owner of the government, I salute your courage and desire to see a government that works for us all regardless of our political and religious affiliation. God bless you all.

We are in a democracy, and there is only one way to get democracy on its feet in the matter of its individual, it's social, its municipal, its State, its national conduct, and that is by keeping the public informed about what is going on", the legendary Joseph Pulitzer opined.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not a joke, as usual, we must stand up for our rights and defend democracy but we cannot do it alone without the government which is saddled with maximum responsibility.

Recently, the Governor of Kogi state visited Ihima district in Okehi Local Government to inspect the level of infrastructural decay the only technical college in Kogi state had attained and see how it can be revived. It was a commendable action and it's well appreciated.

However, in the cause of given his speech, the executive governor lost it all. He did not just lose it, he became a threat to society by boasting to lead a war in the forthcoming election. I began to wonder if the government that should assuage tension and fear in our polity is the one fanning the embers of discord, then there's something fundamentally wrong in our version of democracy.

Thomas Jefferson said, "The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government".  Mr Governor, you have descended so low in your visit to a community you haven't visited for a long time. You didn't go to apologise for not having a print of the government project, instead, you want to cow them through intimidation. This is should be condemned in the strongest terms.

The Government is presumed to live by example in conduct and their actions. If the government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy and fuel crisis and communal disorder.  Your Excellency think about it if your conscience is still alive.

Hon Deedat, this is the government you so served and if you don't see anything wrong in the threat unleashed on your people, then remember there is always a day after power. When that day comes where will you hide your face? Setting your house on fire because you want to please your boss is an unforgivable sin. We are watching

Hon Abdulrahem, Okehi is your local government...of what gain to you if you decide to dance to the drum beating of your boss and set it on fire? Whatever you are doing or planning to do, always remember that God is not a man.

Our fathers, traditional rulers, it is not by accident you are seated on that throne. But very unfortunate your son is making a reckless statement, threatening and calling for war yet none of you could rebuke him.  If you fold your hands and watch any scandalous leaders damage your legacy then rests assured you will have no place in the good book of our society when is to be read to the next generation and guess what? You will not be spared if the war starts. Mark my words... think about it.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was not wrong when he said... "Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country."

My assignment is to inform the general public that the Kogi state government is only preparing for war, not an election and if there is any breakdown of law and order the government should be held responsible.

Citizens of Kogi state. You must get sense now or never. Those who they use to destroy and kill in the past where are they now? We must not sacrifice any life in pursuit of power, We know we have to leave power soon or someday, killing and heating up the community without knowledge will not help us. It is called election not war

God Bless Kogi State
