Sheriff-Makarfi Crisis Foil PDP's Preparations In Lagos Ahead LG Polls

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have foiled the party's preparation ahead of the local government polls in Lagos state as Sheriff and Markarfi refused to settle their differences.

The Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, released guidelines for the  July 22, 2017, local council polls, the leadership of the opposition party still remains in the hands of Sheriff and Makarfi with both claiming to be the chairman of the party.  This development, according to our source has greatly affect the necessary preparation that are supposed to be in place ahead of the local government polls.

It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, last month, affirmed former governor of Borno State, Senator Sheriff, as the authentic national chairman of the party, this has left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Makarfi group, who are also laying claim to the mantle of leadership.

In a split decision, the Appeal Court ruled that it was illegal to replace the Sheriff-led National Working Committee with the Makarfi-led caretaker committee. Not satisfied with the ruling, the Makarfi faction has approached the Supreme Court to quash the verdict of the Appeal Court.

According to our source,  even with  the Appeal Court verdict affirming Sheriff as national chairman of the PDP, the Lagos PDP still remains under the firm of grip of Chief Olabode George. George, a former deputy national chairman of the PDP, has refused to have anything to do with Senator Sheriff.
